Mary Kay Smid, Ed.D.
College of Saint Mary (CSM) is pleased to announce that Mary Kay Smid, Ed.D., CSM Associate Professor of Nursing, received the March of Dimes Nebraska Chapter, Excellence in Nursing Academic Education Award. Of 149 nurses from Nebraska and Western Iowa who were nominated, 26 were recognized in four categories including Rising Star, Clinical Excellence, Academic Excellence and Distinguished Nurse of the Year.
Dr. Smid has taught at College of Saint Mary since 1974. After many years in nursing administration she returned to the classroom/clinical setting to teach courses in maternal child nursing and legal/ethical issues in nursing and health care. Currently, her clinical focus is BSN Community Health Nursing and Leadership Management. She also facilitates the MSN Clinical Practicum for Nursing Education. Dr. Smid holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University, a Bachelor of Science in Business from CSM, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and an Ed.D. from CSM. She is certified as a nursing educator by the National League for Nursing and an active member of Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Pi Nursing Society.
"Dr. Smid has been a faculty member at CSM for almost 40 years and during that time she has made numerous significant contributions to the nursing programs as well as the mission and culture of the college" stated Dr. Christine Pharr, vice president of Academic Affairs. "She is the consummate educator and team player with a true passion for educating students in our Catholic, Mercy tradition. Dr. Smid is very deserving of this award."
College of Saint Mary, founded in Omaha in 1923, is the region's only Catholic college for women. With approximately 1,000 students, CSM is dedicated to the education of women in an environment that calls forth potential and fosters leadership.

Maggie Cox works in the intellectual property and technology group focusing on business and corporate litigation matters with an emphasis on intellectual property and patent litigation. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Lyle E. Strom in the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska and the Honorable Michael G. Heavican, Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court. She earned a B.A., summa cum laude, from Colorado State University in 2007 and a J.D., with Distinction, from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2010. She is admitted to practice in Nebraska.
Jonathan Gardner works in technology contracting and various other matters within the litigation group. He joined Kutak Rock after clerking for two years with The Honorable John F. Kimberly Hare is a member of the litigation group focusing on government compliance, investigations and litigation. She is a nationally recognized federal prosecutor who previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, leading numerous investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Office of Investigations for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. She earned a B.S. from the University of Kansas in 1995 and a J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1999. She is admitted to practice in Nebraska and Minnesota.
Robert Henderson is a member of the firm's public finance group, where he focuses on interest rate swap transactions and tender option bond transactions. He earned a B.A. in history at Regis University in 2004 and a J.D., cum laude, from Creighton University School of Law in 2013. While at Creighton, Henderson served as Lead Articles Editor for the Creighton Law Review. Prior to law school he served for two and a half years in the Peace Corps in Ukraine, focusing on youth development and became proficient in Ukrainian and Russian. Alexis Kramer concentrates her practice in employee benefits law, including health and welfare plans, retirement plans and qualified tuition plans. Tenaska, an Omaha-based energy company, has promoted Fred Hunzeker to president and CEO and John Obermiller to chief financial officer of Tenaska Marketing Group, the umbrella group of Tenaska's marketing affiliates: Tenaska Marketing Ventures (TMV), Tenaska Commodities, LLC and Tenaska NG Fuels, LLC, which are involved in supply chain management of energy and agricultural commodities. In their roles, Hunzeker and Obermiller will oversee the operations of these marketing affiliates.
Hunzeker joined Tenaska in 1991 and helped establish TMV Tenaska's first energy marketing affiliate. Since then, TMV has grown to become one of the largest natural gas marketers in North America, managing over 2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, or approximately nine percent of the total U.S. natural gas consumption in 2012. Hunzeker has been a key executive at Tenaska, serving as president of TMV since 1995. He will continue to serve as president of TMV in addition to his role as president and CEO of the Tenaska Marketing Group. Hunzeker has more than 30 years of experience in the natural gas industry and is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.
Obermiller joined TMV in 2001 and most recently served as senior vice president of the gas marketing affiliate. He will coordinate mid- and back-office administrative activities among the marketing affiliates. Prior to joining Tenaska, Obermiller was involved in natural gas retail aggregation and wholesale marketing businesses. Obermiller has more than 25 years of experience in the industry and is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., where he earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting. Obermiller is also a certified public accountant.

Boler holds a bachelor's degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is actively involved in the community through Project Harmony Executive Service Board and Teammates Mentoring Program.
